Two mates, an old famine workhouse, no hospitality experience but a ripe opportunity and Coach House Coffee was born!
What was once a run-down, pigeon-inhabited famine workhouse has been given a whole lot of TLC by best mates and Kilmacthomas natives Craig & Stephen and is now an oasis of coffee and classic lunches in the centre of the Waterford Greenway.
The two have known each other since birth (their parents were best mates too) and if you’re in for lunch, Craig recommends the Ploughman’s sambo: smoked cheddar from local cheesemongers Knockanore, in-house baked honey ham, and leafy greens served open-sandwich-style on Coach House Coffee’s own farmhouse brown bread. Stephen, on the other hand, says go for the signature 8oz beef burger and don’t look back.
Coach House Coffee opened around the same time as the Waterford Greenway - the two entrepreneurs had seen an opportunity and pounced on it. They took over the old stone building in January 2017 and turned the place into a 28-seater cafe, ready for doors-open in March the same year. Since then, the lads have expanded to 148 indoor seats plus ample room outside for dining al fresco when the Irish weather decides to cooperate. Now, Coach House Coffee is a staple stop for visitors before, during and after their outdoor walking and cycling therapy.
If you’re in the area, stop by and say hello - Craig is a flat-white-with-one-brown-sugar fiend; Stephen is a double-short-black kind of a guy.
